Nanaimo RCMP are looking for the driver or passengers of a car found abandoned early Tuesday after a crash.

The incident was reported about 2 a.m., and the car was found the ditch off Nanaimo Parkway, near the Harewood Mines overpass, police. The vehicle had collided with a large tree in the ditch.

The car is an older-model, grey Mazda four-door that has extensive damage to the driver’s side, roof and windshield. It is believed the car had been travelling southbound.

Officers and firefighters searched the area for the driver and any occupants, but were unsuccessful.

Police located the car’s last known registered owner, who said it had been sold some time ago. He said he did not know who the current owner is.

A check of the hospital determined no one had been admitted following the crash.

Police ask anyone with information to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
