Camping at Mill Hill park, lighting a campfire costs man $1,150

A man camping with a fire in an undesignated area Wednesday was fined $1,150 after being discovered by West Shore RCMP officers on patrol. The man was found in the vicinity of Mill Hill Regional Park in Langford.

At Mill Hill Regional Park. and all other regional parks, campfires are prohibited except in specified campgrounds.

A man camping with a fire in an undesignated area Wednesday was fined $1,150 after being discovered by West Shore RCMP officers on patrol.

The man was found in the vicinity of Mill Hill Regional Park in Langford. Campfires are prohibited at all regional parks except in specified campgrounds.

Police took the campsite down and issued a ticket under the Wildfire Act.

“We all play a role in protecting our communities from wildfire risk,” said West Shore RCMP Const. Nancy Saggar. “The potential for wildfire is increased with the summer season and is currently rated as high in southern Vancouver Island.”
