Body of UBC professor found on Salt Spring

Updated: Salt Spring RCMP say they have located the body of a University of British Columbia professor who had been missing since Wednesday. Sinikka Gay Elliott’s disappearance touched off a search by more than 100 volunteers.

Police received a report Sinikka Gay Elliott, 51, was missing at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Updated: Salt Spring RCMP say they have located the body of a University of British Columbia professor who had been missing since Wednesday. Sinikka Gay Elliott’s disappearance touched off a search by more than 100 volunteers. Her car was found on Wednesday night.

Police are still investigating, but they do not suspect criminality was involved in her death.

Salt Spring Island RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating a UBC professor who hasn’t been seen since she left home to do some errands.

Police received a report Sinikka Gay Elliott, 51, was missing at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.

A search began with police and search-and-rescue personnel. Elliott’s car was located empty about 9:30 p.m. on Juniper Place Road.

Both family members and police are concerned for her well-being.

Elliott, an associate professor in the sociology department at UBC, is five-foot-three with a slim build and short, dark-brown hair. She was wearing a red sweater, jeans and brown boots.
