The body of a 28-year-old missing man was recovered from Elk Lake over the noon hour on Tuesday.

Saanich police, including the dive team, and search crews began looking for Tim Elliott on Monday evening after he was reported missing. He had last been seen about 10 p.m. Saturday at the lake.

The search effort was called off overnight on Monday and resumed Tuesday morning with help from Peninsula Emergency Measures Organization Search and Rescue. About 20 search-and-rescue volunteers joined police, including members from Salt Spring Island and Metchosin search groups.

Saanich police Const. Markus Anastasiades said Elliott’s family has been notified and foul play is not suspected. The B.C. Coroners Service has been called, he said.

“It’s not the outcome that we were hoping for,” Anastasiades said. “Condolences to the family and friends and anyone that knew Mr. Elliott.”
