Victoria lawyer Wendy Bernt is among three new judges appointed to British Columbia’s provincial court.

The province has also reappointed three senior judges as it attempts to clear away a backlog stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The appointments are meant to increase the capacity of the provincial court and reduce court delays around the province.

New judges Bernt, Tamara Golinsky and Oliver Fleck will start work Aug. 10.

Jane Cartwright, Thomas Gove and Richard Miller are back working on the bench starting Tuesday.

The provincial court started a gradual reopening of courtrooms last month.
