Oak Bay police are warning about a phone fraud, saying a woman reported to them that a caller told her that her B.C. Hydro account was in arrears and she needed to meet and provide money to avoid being cut off.

Police said no one should meet to give money or send money over the phone in response to such calls. Anyone told that money is owed should hang up and verify the authenticity of the call with the company mentioned, police said. — Times Colonist
