As weather heats up, a plea to take care of pets

Campbell River RCMP are urging pet owners not to leave their animals in hot cars or outside without water as the weather heats up.

RCMP say they have responded to several calls in recent weeks about animals in distress, and want to remind the public that neglecting a pet can result in a criminal charge of cruelty against animals.

The RCMP advise anyone who sees an animal that might be in distress to contact police. They caution people against taking matters into their own hands.

Reports of animals in distress can also be directed to the B.C. SPCA at 1-855-622-7722
