Oceanside RCMP have charged a man and a woman suspected of identity theft and fraud.

Police were tipped off about a possible fraud and were given a licence plate and vehicle description. After finding the vehicle in a Qualicum Beach hotel parking lot, police started surveillance.

Officers received a search warrant to search the hotel room, which police say the suspect was fraudulently renting under an alias.

RCMP said a search of the room turned up physical and digital evidence suggesting the suspects were fabricating identification and involved in identity theft and other fraudulent activities. Several pieces of stolen ID were also recovered.

A 40-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were arrested Thursday and released with promises to appear in Nanaimo provincial court.

Police said they continue to investigate and more charges are pending.
