A Victoria man is facing more than 50 charges after a search turned up drugs, hundreds of items believed to be stolen, various pieces of identification and $25,000 in cash.

The stolen identification has been linked to thefts from vehicles in Victoria and Saanich.

The find came Oct. 4 when Victoria police and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a multi-unit residential complex in the 800 block of Johnson Street. The door was open when police arrived, and a suspect was arrested without incident.

Police said the suspect first came to their attention in 2017 when an alert citizen reported seeing him trying door handles on vehicles.

“Similarly, at least two members of our community who called us to report that items had been stolen from their vehicles overnight have assisted our investigation by being able to tie this suspect to stolen property,” Victoria police Insp. Michael Brown of the Community Services Division said in a statement.

Police have released pictures of recovered items and ask people who recognize any of them to call the department at 250-995-7654 and ask for Const. Eirik Feir.
