Tourism Victoria says its recent Victoria Calling campaign in Seattle was directly responsible for more than 10,000 Washington state citizens booking a trip to the Island, for an economic impact of $4.7 million.

A 31-year-old man faces assault and mischief charges after a vendor on the Inner Harbour lower causeway was attacked Saturday afternoon.

Victoria Police say they were called about 4:30 p.m. Saturday after the man attacked a vendor’s display with a metal pole, then physically assaulted the vendor.

The male vendor suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

When police arrived, the suspect still held the metal pole. Officers took the man into custody.

A 31-year-old man faces charges of assault with a weapon, mischief and breach of a release order.

Victoria police are still investigating the incident and ask anyone who has information to contact their non-emergency line at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
