VANCOUVER — One man is dead following a “serious collision” between a dump truck and a train in Delta on Saturday.

Delta police said the crash occurred about 3:20 p.m. in the 4600 block of 72nd Street near the intersection with Ladner Trunk Road.

The driver of the dump truck, operated by Smithrite Disposal, was trapped in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no injuries to the crew of the train, which belongs to CN Rail.

Shortly after arriving on the scene, police closed lanes and detoured drivers to 80th Street. Police were expected to be on the scene for several hours.

No further information was available Saturday evening.

The incident comes two weeks after another fatal collision involving a CN coal train.

On Dec. 30, a Langley couple was killed when their car was struck by a train on the tracks near Glover Road and the Langley Bypass.

The B.C. Coroners Service, as well as the RCMP’s Integrated Collision and Analysis and Reconstruction Service, CN Rail and Canadian Pacific Railway, are investigating the December incident.
