Kelowna’s Gyro Beach was closed after a body was found floating in Okanagan Lake on Sunday.

In a statement, Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP said police were called to the beach, along Lakeshore Road, at 2:23 p.m.

“RCMP received a report of what appeared to be a person, floating face down in the Okanagan Lake just off the shore of Gyro Beach. Kelowna RCMP front line officers responded to the scene alongside paramedics of B.C. Emergency Health Services and the Kelowna Fire Department. The B.C. Coroners Service has also been called to the scene to conduct an investigation,” the statement said.

O’Donaghey said the body had not been identified.

Gyro Beach is four kilometres south of downtown on the east side of the lake.

“We would greatly appreciate it if the general public would avoid the immediate area at this time,” said O’Donaghey.
