An Angus Reid poll suggests Premier John Horgan's approval rating has dropped since June.

Premier John Horgan’s approval rating is down seven points since June to 56 per cent, according to a new premiers’ performance poll.

The Angus Reid Institute poll released Wednesday found that since June, all but one premier who was in power at the time the pandemic hit has seen their respective levels of approval decline.

The lone exception is Ontario’s Doug Ford, with a statistically insignificant one-point increase on job performance to 36 per cent approval rating.

Horgan’s popularity spiked after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic but has fallen seven points from June and 15 points from a peak of 71 per cent in May 2020, according to the poll.

Angus Reid notes that while the trend has been negative since May of last year, Horgan still holds the approval of over half (56 per cent) of British Columbians, while 38 per cent disapprove and six per cent are not sure.

The survey did not ask British Columbians why they approved or disapproved of Horgan’s leadership.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and New Brunswick’s Blaine Higgs both saw their approval crash nearly 20 points since June to 43 and 38 per cent from from 61 and 55 per cent, respectively.

Alberta’s Jason Kenney is the least approved-of premier among his own constituents at 22 per cent, according to the poll.

The online poll of 5,011 adults was conducted from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3. It carries a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
