ABBOTSFORD — Five people including a child were treated for smoke inhalation after a vehicle was set on fire outside their home in Abbotsford early Thursday.

Abbotsford police said someone backed a minivan into the driveway of a residence about 3:15 a.m., threw accelerant on the vehicle and then set it on fire.

A male suspect, wearing a hoodie, jeans and dark shoes, was spotted running from the driveway, police said.

The Abbotsford Fire Department arrived to find the van fully engulfed and smoke billowing from the garage and attic of the home.

All five people inside the home were able to escape and were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.

One man also suffered a burn on his hand.

Abbotsford police said they are trying to determine a motive.
