Riding description

NDP MLA Scott Fraser is seeking a third term in office in this riding.

He’s facing Liberal Darren Deluca, a local owner of a big-game hunting company, and Conservative Enid Mary Sagster-Kelly, a former business owner, children’s entertainer and humour columnist.

The riding stretches on the west coast from north of Port Renfrew to the Hesquiat Peninsula, and on the east coast from north Nanaimo to Bowser.

Forestry, raw log exports, watershed protection, private managed forest lands, economic growth for Port Alberni and job creation are key issues in the riding.

• Previous elected experience: Mayor: The District of Tofino 1996-1999; MLA: Alberni-Qualicum 2005-2009; MLA: Alberni-Pacific Rim 2009-2013
• Community involvement: First elected as the MLA for Alberni Qualicum, on May 17, 2005, he was re-elected on May 12, 2009 to the newly titled constituency of Alberni-Pacific Rim.
Scott served as the NDP critic for Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation for many years, as well as serving as the critic for Municiple Affairs. From 1996 to 1999, he was Mayor for the District of Tofino.
As your provincial representative and as a mayor, Scott has always listened to you, his constituents, and worked to find practical solutions for you and your family.
A community activist, he has also served on many Boards and committees, including Alberni Clayoquot Regional District Board, Vancouver Island Regional Library Board, Clayoquot Sound Central Region Board, Tourism British Columbia, Vancouver Island Health Board, Tofino/Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, Treaty Advisory Committee, Alberni-Clayoquot Fisheries Committee and the Family Court Committee.
Born in Ottawa, Ontario, he moved to BC in 1980. His background includes small business owner, labour, harbour management, fisheries and shellfish aquaculture. Scott lives with his wife Dolores and daughter Emma. (Maximum 50 words)
