A food bank in West Kelowna has been stripped of its charitable status by the Canada Revenue Agency.

The agency says Bette's Single Family and Seniors Food Bank violated numerous sections of the Income Tax Act. It says more than $45,000 in cash donations was spent on president Bette Ladd's wages, car and cellphone in 2008. Only $19,626, or 20 per cent of cash donations, went to food, it says.

Ladd says she is appealing the decision.
