CALGARY — Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi wants Alberta Health Services to call off their dogs and show some flexibility when it comes to offers of free food or drink to first responders.
CALGARY — Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi wants Alberta Health Services to call off their dogs and show some flexibility when it comes to offers of free food or drink to first responders.

On Monday afternoon, inspectors went down to Calgary’s flooded Mission neighbourhood.

They shut down Original Joe’s and Mission Perk, two businesses that were staging a barbecue and providing free coffee for firefighters and other emergency workers.

Apparently, the fact the businesses didn’t have a proper canopy over the barbecue was a violation of health regulations.

Nenshi says he understands health issues need to be taken seriously and doesn’t want anyone getting a gastro illness.

But he says there should be some leeway in this situation.
