Energy conference:

Calgary plays host to the Global Energy Show this week beginning on Tuesday. It's a return to an in-person event this year for the oil and gas industry, among other sectors. There is a jam-packed schedule that includes remarks about working with Indigenous communities from Jody Wilson-Raybould, a Q&A with Cenovus CEO Alex Pourbaix and a look at energy security with Ukraine's ambassador to Canada.

Shopify AGM:

Shopify Inc. shareholders will vote on proposed changes to its governance structure at the e-commerce software company's annual general meeting Tuesday. The proposed changes include issuing Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke a non-transferable founder share to preserve his voting power and a 10-for-one split of the company's class A and class B shares. The proposal was opposed by advisory firms Glass Lewis & Co and ISS last month.

Dollarama results:

Retailer Dollarama reports its first-quarter results on Wednesday. With inflation eating into Canadians' discretionary spending, discount stores may see a rise in traffic from customers seeking deals. Industry watchers will be looking closely to see if it is translating into sales.

Transat reports:

Tour operator Transat A.T. Inc. reports second-quarter results on Thursday. The Montreal-based company which also runs Air Transat was plagued during the quarter by customer service problems that hampered the airline sector throughout the pandemic. Transat said last quarter that bookings rebounded as COVID-19 measures eased.

Jobs report:

Statistics Canada will release its labour force survey for May on Friday. The country's unemployment rate dropped to another record low in April at 5.2 per cent, although the pace of job creation slowed, suggesting a tightening of the labour market.
