A woman died in hospital this evening (Jan. 27) after she was stabbed in Coquitlam's Austin Heights neighbourhood.

Now, B.C. RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called to work with local Mounties on the case — and also hope the public can step in and help.

According to a release, the victim was found suffering from stab wounds in an underground parkade in the 1100-block of Austin Avenue around 4:30 p.m. today.

She was then taken to hospital to receive treatment, but later died of her injuries.

No other information is being released at this time, including the identity of the victim.

Residents who may have witnessed the incident are being asked to come forward with statements and/or dash-cam footage.

More specifically, police are hoping to speak to someone who was in the area of Austin Avenue between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. earlier today.

Anyone with details, tips or video about the fatal incident is strongly encouraged to call IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
