Nanaimo RCMP say warrants have been issued for a man wanted on charges that include resisting arrest, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon and fraud.

The warrants for Michael Bonson, 34, followed his failure to appear in court.

The RCMP said Bonson has had several interactions with police in central Vancouver Island relating to drugs, illegal weapons or resisting arrest, most notably in September 2020, when he managed to flee after he was pulled over for a traffic check in Nanaimo.

When he was told he would be arrested for possessing illegal drugs, a violent struggle broke out, RCMP said. A Taser was ineffective and Bonson got away in his vehicle.

Two weeks prior to the encounter, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP found Bonson in a parked vehicle and arrested him after discovering illegal drugs, a set of brass knuckles, an imitation firearm and scales. Police said charges are before the courts from that incident.

Bonson is described as white, five-foot-11 and 180 pounds with short, balding, blond hair. He is known to have a moustache, goatee or beard.

Call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 with any information about his whereabouts.
