Victoria police are hoping to reunite a lost dog with its owner, a victim of a violent attack in downtown Victoria on June 11.

The dog, described as a brown pitbull named Camper, who wears a pink collar, was last seen in the 700-block of Government Street, running away from the scene of the attack.

That day officers responded to a report of a man using a hammer to smash the driver’s side window of a van while its occupant and her dog were inside. The incident occurred in the 500-block of Pembroke Street.

The victim attempted to flee from the attack in her van, but the suspect began smashing her vehicle windows with a hammer. The victim and her dog exited the van via the passenger side, while the van was moving and eventually collided with a parked vehicle.

Frightened by the incident, the dog ran and has yet to be found.

A 40-year-old Edmonton man was arrested at the scene and faces charges of assault with a weapon and mischief. He has been released with a court date and conditions.

Anyone with information on Camper’s whereabouts or have information about this incident please call Victoria Police at 250-995-7654.
