Vancouver outdoor pools and beaches are open for swimming on May 21, 2022.

Anyone want to play mermaids?

Vancouverites looking for a place to splash around can visit outdoor pools and beaches as they officially open on May 21.

Lifeguards will be on duty from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. keeping watch over designated swimming areas marked by red and yellow flags at these beaches:

  • English Bay
  • Jericho
  • Kitsilano
  • Locarno
  • Spanish Banks East and West
  • Sunset
  • Second
  • Third

Unfortunately, the city's most iconic outdoor pool may not open this year. Those that are salty over Kitsilano Pool's closure can look forward to New Brighton and Second Beach pools which will also be open. Maple Grove and Hillcrest outdoor pools will also open a few weeks later on June 15.

The city has also extended outdoor pool hours for the early birds, opening pools for length swimming between 7:15-8:15 a.m. and 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Spray parks are also opening, but wading pools will remain closed until July 5.

Drop-in sessions are limited this summer and swimmers are encouraged to register online in advance through MyZone.

Registration for the first day of the season has already opened and swimmers can book sessions three days in advance.
