The Rainbow Pride crosswalk near Victoria city hall has been vandalized.

Black tire marks have been streaked across the Rainbow Pride crosswalk on Pandora Avenue near Centennial Square, in what’s thought to be an act of vandalism.

David Tillson, president of the Victoria Pride Society, said rainbow sidewalks in Vancouver, New Westminster and the University of Victoria have been defaced so he wasn’t surprised to hear of a similar occurrence in downtown Victoria.

“It’s going to happen,” Tillson said. “It doesn't change any single person in the community. There are way bigger issues in the gay community than someone pulling a wheelie on a crosswalk.”

The crosswalks were painted in late June in time for Victoria Pride Week.
