Nanaimo RCMP want to reunite a large sum of money with its owner.

A cleaning crew at a shopping mall in north Nanaimo found the cash on Dec. 31 and turned it over to the police.

After talking with cleaning staff, investigators believe an elderly man placed the money down and forgot about it. The man is described as being between 75 and 85, 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-4 and wearing a distinctive Irish hat with a grey scarf around his neck.

Const. Gary O’Brien did not disclose the amount of cash.

“Let’s just say it was more than $1,000 and less than $7,000,” he said.

Anyone knows who the money belongs to is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 and quote file number 2021-47805.
