A student is in hospital after being struck in a crosswalk at the timenear Royal Bay Secondary School on Monday morning.

The incident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Latoria and Wishart roads in Colwood. The vehicle was being driven by another student.

Based on statements from witnesses, police said the accident might be the result of confusion on the pedestrian’s part.

“They could see the student was looking for vehicles. But they were looking the other way and had already stepped out into the crosswalk,” said Const. Nancy Saggar of West Shore RCMP. “The vehicle was already in the crosswalk.”

Police couldn’t say whether the driver and the pedestrian know each other.

No charges have been recommended, and the investigation is ongoing.
