Star Wars in Stanley Park? Vancouver artist creates the Battle of Vancouver

It all started when one person called another a nerf herder.

Vancouver digital artist David Aste is at it again.

He's working on a series of images, dropping some of Star Wars' most famous vehicles into some of Vancouver's most famous views. This time he's upped the difficulty level with a full-on battle in and around Stanley Park and the 9 o'clock gun.

"For part of the series, I used the planes from Harbour Air Seaplanes (a DHC-3) and the people on the picture to get size references for everything," writes Aste on Reddit.

The most complex of his Star Wars and Vancouver mash-ups so far, the image features a huge AT-AT walker in the park while Rebel X-wings and TIE fighters rip around above the park and skim over Coal Harbour.

It's the third of Aste's pieces mixing a galaxy far away with familiar local views. Several more are planned.

"The idea is to showcase what it would look like if instead of another distant planet, it was Vancouver the one at the centre of the action,” Aste said in a message to Vancouver Is Awesome about a previous piece.
