Search continues for man who went missing a year ago from Fairfield-Gonzales

Ian Indridson had been suffering from anxiety and insomnia when he disappeared on Jan. 10, 2022, leaving behind his keys, wallet and phone

Victoria police have issued a renewed call for assistance in locating a man reported missing from his Fairfield-Gonzales neighbourhood a year ago.

VicPD said officers have continued searching for Ian Indridson since his sudden disappearance on Jan. 10, 2022, at the age of 54.

His wife, Gloria Mendez, told the Times Colonist at the time that she knew something was wrong when Indridson failed to wake her on Jan. 10, and was nowhere to be found when she got up, although their dog had been fed and there was a fresh pot of coffee on.

He had left behind his keys, wallet and phone.

Mendez said her husband had been suffering from anxiety and insomnia after starting a new temporary work assignment just a few days before he disappeared.

Family and friends put up posters in the neighbourhood, searched parks like Mount Douglas and Mount Tolmie and even hired a drone operator, but failed to find him.

Indridson is 5-foot-11 with a slim build and short salt-and-pepper hair. He was wearing a dark-coloured Eddie Bauer sweater, black sweatpants and black rubber boots at the time of his disappearance.

“In considering all of the factors surrounding Ian’s disappearance, including the fact that it is out of character for Ian to have gone missing, investigators believe Ian to be a high-risk missing person,” VicPD said in a statement on Tuesday. “As defined by provincial policing standards related to missing persons investigations, this means that investigators believe Ian’s health or well-being may be in immediate danger.”

Anyone who sees Indridson is asked t call 911. If you have any information about where he may be and have not yet spoken with officers, call the VicPD Report Desk at 250-995-7654, extension 1. To report what you know anonymously, call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
