Sailboat sinks in Selkirk waterway after explosion and fire

Victoria firefighters rushed to the Selkirk waterway early Thursday after a sailboat exploded, caught fire and then sank. The 35- to 40-foot boat was anchored off Banfield Park on the west side of Selkirk Trestle. The call came in at about 1:18 a.m.

Victoria firefighters rushed to the Selkirk waterway early Thursday after a sailboat exploded, caught fire and then sank.

The 35- to 40-foot boat was anchored off Banfield Park on the west side of Selkirk Trestle. The call came in at about 1:18 a.m. Firefighters fought the blaze with water and foam. The boat sank before it could be beached.

Nobody was believed to be on the boat at the time and there were no injuries.
