A fire in the roof of a four-storey Oak Bay apartment building on Monday led to residents either leaving the building or sheltering in place with firefighters checking on them.

Smoke entered the heating and ventilation system of the building, located on Oak Bay Avenue near Monterey, and spread to every floor, said acting Assistant Chief John Ballantyne.

No one was injured.

The blaze was put out with the help of the Victoria and Saanich fire departments.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Traffic was diverted while the fire was being tackled.
