Patrons of the Breakfast Nook in Nanaimo will be eating indoors for now after the restaurant’s outdoor patio was destroyed overnight.

The popular Selby Street eatery posted photos of the destruction on Facebook Wednesday, saying: “This is what we walked into this morning. Please … if anyone has any info, sees a vehicle that must be completely munched, please contact me or the RCMP.”

Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said it appears that a vehicle hit the patio. The damage was reported about 5 a.m. and no one was around when police arrived.

There were no closed-circuit television cameras in place.

Patio seating was introduced in Nanaimo, as in other communities, to help restaurants survive during the pandemic.
