Police trying to identify assailant in Nanaimo grocery-store spat

Man assaulted after accusing assailant of cutting in front of elderly customer in grocery-store lineup.

Nanaimo RCMP are looking for help finding a man suspected of punching another man several times in the head at a supermarket in July.

Witnesses told police the suspect cut in front of an elderly customer in a lineup to buy groceries at about 6 p.m. on July 23 at the Thrifty Foods store at Port Place Mall.

When another man in the lineup expressed his displeasure to the individual, he was punched several times in the head, police said. The asssailant ran off before police arrived.

RCMP are distributing an image of the suspect that was captured on closed-circuit television.

The victim did not require medical treatment.
