Major crimes detectives with the RCMP are investigating a homicide in Sooke, after the body of a man was discovered Sunday at a residence on Throup Road.
Initial evidence at the scene led investigators to believe criminality was involved, said an RCMP statement.
A person of interest was identified and arrested at the scene.
“Due to certain factors pertaining to this case which can’t be disclosed at this time, this person has since been released from police custody pending further investigation,” the statement said.
Police said those involved in the altercation are known to each other, the incident is believed to be isolated and there is no risk to the public.
Major crimes investigators are in the area and working with Sooke RCMP.
Police said the investigation is in the early stages and no further information will be released at this time.
The homicide investigation comes just over a week after a Sooke man was shot in his own driveway in the Otter Point area.
The unrelated case saw Tony Neilson suffer a gunshot wound. A 55-year-old Sooke man was arrested in what police said was a targeted attack.
