People were forced from their homes Tuesday night in Langford when a water main broke near Goldstream Avenue and Strathmore Road.

Water filled the street and rushed into yards and homes; some vehicles appeared to be trapped by the water.

The water main break was reported about 8 p.m. and crews managed to turn off the flow about 9 p.m.

Residents told CHEK News that the flooding happened fast. “We live on the bottom floor of the Strathmore and everything was normal, within five minutes water was coming in the door” said Alex Liang. “Another five minutes it was coming down to our basement, so we just hauled everything up to the top floor and got out by the back way.”

Todd Kendall was also forced out of his home. “My truck is under water, my basement is under water, my heat pump is under water, my backyard is flooded,” Kendall told CHEK News.

A B.C. Transit bus was brought in to provide shelter for people forced from their homes.
