The Oak Bay branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library will be closed until Feb. 6 after dust contaminated with asbestos was found in an isolated area of a workroom.

The district will conduct further testing to ensure the safety of staff and the community, said spokeswoman Hayley Goodgrove.

The book drop will also remain closed until Feb. 6. Library items can be returned at any other branch of the GVPL system. For more information, visit gvpl.ca. A customer service line is also open Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at 250-940-4875.

Adjacent areas of the facility, including the Oak Bay Volunteer Services Society and the Hampshire Apartments, are not affected, and services at Monterey Recreation Centre also remain unaffected, says the District of Oak Bay.

The district says it will provide further updates following the completion of additional testing.
