A commemoration honouring National Peacekeepers’ Day will be held Tuesday in Esquimalt, with a parade, ceremony and Cyclone helicopter flypast among the proceedings.
The event is organized by the British Columbia Chapter of the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association, with assistance from Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt.
The parade will include upward of 50 veterans and four historic peacekeeping military vehicles, and leaves from the corner of Admirals and Esquimalt roads shortly after 7 p.m. A ceremony at the cenotaph in Esquimalt Park will follow at 7:30 p.m., feting Canadian Armed Forces personnel, veterans, police and civilians who served in international peace support.
Guests at the 30th annual memorial will include federal, provincial and municipal representatives, current and retired military, and police. Capt. Jeff Hutchinson, base commander of CFB Esquimalt, will speak at the ceremony, during which a Cyclone helicopter flypast will occur.
