Sections of Highway 19 will be closed overnight for several days while Nanaimo’s midtown water supply improvement project is underway.

The Nanaimo Parkway closures will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. from March 26 to March 30, between the Jingle Pot Road and Third Street intersection and at the College Drive-Fifth Street intersection.

Northbound traffic will be detoured via the truck route down Fifth Street to Wakesiah Avenue and up Third Street and Jingle Pot Road, the city said in a statement.

Southbound traffic will be diverted down Jingle Pot Road and Third Street to Wakesiah Avenue and back up Fifth Street.

Drivers are encouraged to use the Old Island Highway — Highway 19A — during the closure periods.

Residents who have registered for alerts through Nanaimo’s Voyent Alert! app will be reminded of the closures.
