Nanaimo RCMP are seeking information about a hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian in a mall parking lot.

An 18-year-old woman said she was walking through the Brooks Landing Mall parking lot on Oct. 12 between 11:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., heading toward a crosswalk at Estevan Road, when she saw a grey SUV approaching. She heard the engine rev as the SUV got closer, and then was hit in her upper leg with enough force to lift her off the ground.

She kept her balance and didn’t fall.

Before she could get a look at the driver and vehicle, the vehicle continued through the parking lot and was last seen turning onto Estevan Road. The victim said another vehicle drove by afterward and a passenger mouthed the words asking if she was OK, but the vehicle didn’t stop.

She then called her boyfriend, who drove her to the hospital, where she was treated for soft-tissue damage.

Police did not find any surveillance cameras in the parking lot that would have captured the incident.

Call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 with any information and quote file number 2021-38398.
