Island Health is adding 200 new appointments for COVID-19 booster shots this weekend in the Cowichan Valley and says it’s recruiting additional vaccination staff for the area, “given the strong community interest.”

Island Health said how long it takes to get a booster after booking varies by community, with some getting same-day appointments and others needing to wait three weeks. It all depends on the size and capacity of local clinics, staffing ability and population demographics, the health authority said, adding it’s ramping up clinics and staffing across the region to provide booster doses as quickly as possible.

New appointments are added frequently and Island Health recommends checking back often — including after you’ve booked — to see if earlier appointments may be available.

Booster-dose appointments can also be booked at more than 160 pharmacies within Island Health using the provincial booking system when you get an invitation to book an appointment.
