The Crystal Pool has temporarily closed due to a mechanical problem, the City of Victoria says.

The closure includes the hot tub, sauna and team room, but fitness areas are open as usual.

The mechanical problem involved failure of a valve in the filtration system that had already been replaced in the last few years, a city spokesperson said.

The city said it is working to get the parts needed for repairs and expects to have the Quadra Street pool reopened on Nov. 20.

During the closure, pool memberships will be accepted at partner facilities such as other municipal recreation centres and the downtown YMCA, it said.

“Apologies for the inconvenience,” the city said in a statement. “Your patience and understanding is appreciated.”

The city is expected to hold a referendum in February on borrowing $168.9 million to replace the pool, which is more than 50 years old.

City residents will also be asked to weigh in on which of two sites in Central Park they favour
