Victoria police captured a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant early Friday evening in the Fernwood-Jubilee area.

Christopher Gaudet, 36, was wanted for suspension of statutory release.

At about 5:30 p.m. VicPD officers located Gaudet in a suite in a multi-unit residential building in the 1900-block of Ashgrove Street.

Gaudet fled the residence on foot and was located and arrested by members of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team in the area of Shakespeare Street and Gladstone Avenue.

Police said officers used a loud distraction device during the course of the arrest.

There were no injuries during the arrest.

On Thursday, Gaudet was the subject of a national wanted-person notification.

He is serving a federal sentence of more than three years for possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order, kidnapping while using a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

He remains in custody.
