A disagreement in a McDonald’s lineup led to one man beating another man with a shovel, the Nanaimo RCMP says.

The victim did not require hospitalization.

He was in a vehicle in the drive-through at the McDonald’s near Terminal Park Shopping Centre about 2 p.m. Monday and got annoyed that the person in front of him was taking so long.

“He honks the horn a couple of times,” said Const. Gary O’Brien. “The suspect comes out with a shovel and starts smashing at his car.

“The victim runs away and he’s chased, and he’s hit in the head about three times with the shovel.”

The suspect was still there when police arrived. He was arrested and is facing charges of assault with a weapon. He has been released on conditions.
