A man seen leaving the Real Canadian Superstore on Langford Parkway with a cart full of unpaid-for merchandise on Tuesday is alleged to have spat on a loss-prevention officer.

West Shore RCMP were called to the store about 6:50 p.m. and discovered the officer had stopped a man with what turned out to be more than $1,100 in items.

Police were told the man spat before walking away from the cart. They located him near the store and learned that he had also been breaching court-ordered curfew conditions by being away from his home.

A search of his backpack located more items that had not been paid for.

He was arrested for assault, theft under $5,000 and breaching court conditions.
