A Campbell River man seeking refuge from the cold in the luggage carrier of a tour bus was lucky to wake up in his hometown.
Around 3 a.m. on Dec. 15, police learned that someone was stuck in the baggage compartment of a tour bus parked on 11th Avenue. The man was knocking and calling for help, trying to make as much noise as possible.
The 45-year-old man crawled and closed the door behind him then fell asleep, said RCMP Const. Maury Tyre. When he woke up, he couldn’t open the door from the inside.
Fortunately, a bus driver arrived for work early and was able to unlock the compartment, said Tyre.
“Likely, he will be a little more cautious as his sleeping arrangement could have meant waking up in a totally different community,” said Tyre.
