A suspect has been arrested and is expected to be charged later today as part of a homicide investigation into the death of a 28-year-old Port Hardy woman.
Cindy Scow, 28, was discovered in an abandoned house late Saturday night after a neighbour called authorities and died in hospital around 1 a.m. today. A Port Hardy man is in custody but his name is not being released until he is formally charged. What degree (of homicide) I dont know at this point well have to wait and see what that happens to be, says Cpl. Darren Lagan, Senior Media Relations Officer with the RCMP.
Lagan is not aware of what relationship, if any there, may be between the victim and the arrested man. The cause of death is not being released.
RCMP, B.C. Coroner Service, and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) continue to investigate.
Scow was discovered after RCMP responded to a call for medical assistance to the 100 block of Tsulquate Road in Port Hardy on the Gwasala-Nakwaxdaxw First Nation.
First responders determined she was victim of assault, and the alleged assailant was arrested shortly before midnight on Sunday.
Investigators are conscious of the significant impact this death will have on this community, and remind anyone needing support that crisis workers and RCMP Victim Services are available (to) help, the RCMP said in a news release.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Port Hardy RCMP at 250-949-6335, or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
