The 22-year-old pedestrian struck by a car Thursday morning at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Tillicum Road remains in hospital in critical condition in the intensive-care unit.

The man suffered potentially life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a Toyota Prius about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Southbound highway lanes were closed for several hours in the wake of the incident.

The Prius remained in the middle of the intersection, along with what looked like clothing and a backpack and pieces of paper on the road.

The driver stayed at the scene and was co-operating, police said.

Police said information is circulating on social media about what may have caused the crash, but they are not yet able to confirm the circumstances.
