A second round of thunder and lightning in less than a month hit the capital region Tuesday night, causing sporadic torrents of rain and a scattering of power outages.
Environment Canada spokesman Dave Wray said the thunderstorms resulted from a moist, unstable weather system advancing from Washington state.
"The instability is essentially being pushed up from the south," Wray said.
He said the trailing edge of the storm system was over Victoria International Airport about 7: 30 p.m., but another storm cell was due to move toward Victoria from the Port Angeles area later in the day.
"We're keeping an eye on the situation," Wray said.
He said it's unusual for the region to see two thunderstorms within such a short time.
"We've been getting a fair amount of southerly feed from the States, which is usually not a very common occurrence."
B.C. Hydro reported outages for about 1,340 customers in 20 clusters on Tuesday, mostly caused by lightning. The largest number of outages was in Langford and Colwood.
Today's weather is forecast to be mainly cloudy with a high of 20, followed by at least five days of sunshine with temperatures in the low to mid 20s.
