Knife-wielding robber strikes at Nanaimo store

Nanaimo RCMP is searching for mask-wearing man who wielded a knife to rob a convenience store.

Police said the man fled the James General Store on Victoria Road just before officers arrived at about 9 p.m. Thursday. A search with a canine unit failed to find the suspect.

“The clerk told officers that the suspect walked in their business, produced a knife then demanded money from the till,” RCMP said.

“The clerk complied with the demand, then watched as the suspect headed northbound on Needham Street.”

The clerk was not injured, but was left shaken and is being helped by victim services, said RCMP.

The suspect is described as dark-skinned , five-foot-10 with a slim build. He wore a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue medical mask and gloves.
