High winds lead to power outages for 1,700 customers on south Island

About 1,700 customers in Sooke, Saanich and Victoria were without electricity in the mid-afternoon Thursday due to wind toppling trees onto power lines. Six outages were causing the power issues.

About 1,700 customers in Sooke, Saanich and Victoria were without electricity in the mid-afternoon Thursday due to wind toppling trees onto power lines.

Six outages were causing the power issues.

Winds up to 60 kilometres per hour have been blowing near the water during the day.
