Gas hit more than $2 a litre again at some service stations in the capital region Monday.

The price at the pump rose 12 cents a litre to reach $2.019 at stations in Sooke, Colwood, Langford and Saanich, according to online price tracker GasBuddy.com.

The increase comes as the price of crude oil has climbed steadily over the past several days.

Pump prices have soared since sanctions were imposed on Russia in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine, disrupting its oil exports.

Average fuel prices in B.C. had been on the decline, settling at $1.899 a litre after peaking in the second week of March, when they hit a record high of $2.089 a litre in Greater Victoria.

Analysts say gas prices could go higher if crude prices continue to rise.

Premier John Horgan announced last month that drivers would get a one-time fuel rebate to offset the rising cost of fuel.

Most B.C. drivers who had a basic auto insurance policy in February will get a $110 cheque. Commercial drivers will get a $165 rebate. Drivers will get the money either by direct deposit or mail in May and June.

The gas rebate is expected to cost taxpayers $395 million.
