Firefighters get Fort Rodd Hill brush fires under control fast

Firefighters from View Royal, Colwood and the Department of National Defence were called out to contain two separate brush fires on Fort Rodd Hill in View Royal around 12:40 p.m. today.

They had the fires under control within 20 minutes and are now mopping up.

The hot and dry conditions have strained firefighting resources as 92 wildfires burn across B.C. About 500 out-of-province firefighters and 600 local contract firefighters are assisting B.C. Wildfire Branch’s 1,400 firefighters control the blazes.

The Coastal Fire Centre imposed a campfire ban across most of Vancouver Island as the wildfire danger rating remains high.
